Lyrics
Other Side Of The HillIt always gives me a thrill,
To see what is on the other side of the hill.
Will I see a forest blocking out the sunshine,
Or does the road turn to a path winding through the pine?
It peaks my imagination and stimulates my mind.
I live for the thrill,
To see the other side of the hill.
Now a days there is no place you can go,
That someone hasn’t already been.
I feel if I keep hiking and looking,
I will find a place no one else has seen.
I climbed a hill and crossed a hollow,
Knowing I will be the first man to see.
I find a pile of stones and a rusted hinge,
Someone had been there long before me.
I stepped over a fallen hemlock,
And spotted an old hand dug well.
I saw an old pulley covered with dirt and leaves.
If it could talk, oh, the stories it could tell.
A family had lived and worked here.
How long ago I will probably never know.
Their ghosts may still guard the home place.
I looked around a while then decided to go.
I just have to see what’s on,
The other side of the hill.
Over the next hill and then the one after that.
On and on, on and on, I will continue to trudge.
Looking for a place man’s eyes have never seen.
A place where the old map ends in a smudge.
I camped on a ridge sat staring at the night sky.
Someone sat here and watched the same stars.
They saw the clouds turn by and cover the moon.
They had similar thoughts and similar scars.
It seems we keep building on top of the ghosts.
Thinking we are the first to arrive,
But the hills remember the hooves and boots,
Of the ones that were strong enough to thrive.
They have heard songs that nobody wrote down.
Some trees still scarred from the carving of a name.
The paths through the hills were made by pioneers,
A hundred years ago, looking to stake their claim.
It always gives me a thrill,
To see what is on the other side of the hill.
Will I see a forest blocking out the sunshine,
Or does the road turn to a path winding through the pine?
It peaks my imagination and stimulates my mind.
I live for the thrill,
To see the other side of the hill.
Just on the other side of the hill.
