Love Between The Shelves

It’s a rainy afternoon
And I’m inside ‘tween the shelves
Watching
Waiting
For a chance to catch her eye
I’ll give her a nod and maybe walk by
Her reference desk

On a sunny day in summer
The place will be deserted
Except for me
And her
And the rest of the employees
She’ll think, “He must be smart”
I’ll nod in agreement and walk by
Her reference desk

Cuz’ I’m in love with the library lady
I’m hoping she’ll consider me maybe
Though I think she’s married
And prob’ly has kids
I’m in love with the library lady
I’m in love with the library lady

It’s a wintry, snowy evening
Most places have closed early
Not the library
And not me
She’ll wonder if I have a warm home waiting
I’ll nod knowing my home is in her heart
She’ll wonder if I have hurt my neck
Causing my head to nod
As I saunter past
Her reference desk

I’m in love with the library lady
I’m hoping she’ll consider me maybe
Though I think she’s married
And prob’ly has kids
I’m in love with the library lady
I’m in love with the library lady

Oh, her glasses
And mid-calf skirt
Oh, her sweater
Over a plain shirt
Her hair bun drives me wild
As she keeps books neatly filed
On a shelf just inches away
From where I sit and say

I’m in love with the library lady
I’m hoping she’ll consider me maybe
She may call the cops
To get me to stop
But I’m in love with the library lady
I'm in love with the library lady
