Mekong Delta Yacht Club
We weren’t no sailors, we were Army men,
With a boat and a prayer, driftin’ deep in the bends.
From St. Pete sand to the jungle's moan,
We carved our names in the combat zone.
Didn’t have no medals shined for show,
Just steel-deck boots and a motor to tow.
The radio crackled, the night got loud,
But we ran that river like we’d made our vow.
We were the Mekong Delta Yacht Club,
No fancy yacht, just grit and mud.
Driftin’ through the heat, dodgin’ death and rain,
Laughin’ in the dark to hide the pain.
A brotherhood floatin' on diesel and blood—
Yeah, we were the Mekong Delta Yacht Club.
Sent letters home with sweaty hands,
Dreamin’ of girls and American bands.
But here we stayed with rust and rope,
Haulin’ ammo and hangin’ on hope.
We weren’t the headlines, we weren’t parade,
But we kept the line that the war had laid.
We patched up hulls and hearts the same—
Never left a soul when the river came.
We were the Mekong Delta Yacht Club,
No brass to kiss, just wake to scrub.
With a cooler full of memories and a cross to bear,
Tough as the swamp, breathin’ jungle air.
A river-borne band of undying love—
We were the Mekong Delta Yacht Club.
Now years have passed, and the river’s wide,
But I still hear their voices on the tide.
And when I sleep, they pull me near—
That muddy water, that silent cheer…
We were the Mekong Delta Yacht Club,
A brotherhood born in the thick and the rough.
We came back changed, but we all came back—
Carved our story in that Mekong track.
Forever remembered, never above—
We are the Mekong Delta Yacht Club.
With a boat and a prayer, driftin’ deep in the bends.
From St. Pete sand to the jungle's moan,
We carved our names in the combat zone.
Didn’t have no medals shined for show,
Just steel-deck boots and a motor to tow.
